Week 3 The Journey Continues......
It is lovely to start the day with reflections on how the week went for everyone......what worked and what didn't.
Hapara Hot tips
This I need to become familiar with and chat to Graham at school to see how I can access this on my computer as this isn't something I am at all familiar with and not part of the school systems.
Manaiakalani
The hook..........Essentially hooking the learner and the teacher into learning.
Hanga. It is all about the Hook.
Using technology doesn't make us less creative it gives us more opportunities to be creative.
Robyn Sutton has some excellent thoughts on this for high school students (using creativity) in his podcasts.
The Heart of the Matter is a documentary that highlights the expectation of what NZ learning was but with the implementation of Tomorrow schools the creativity element of learning was lost.
The question we need to ask ourselves is where are the opportunities for our children to get hooked into creativity.
Create to learn- start with create to engage the learner so they learn.
" Creating is the real purpose for learning."
Ken Robinson is an interesting youtube clip
Why do schools kill creativity?
Sisomo
Sight, Sound and Motion
How we hook in the viewer using sisomo to gain the attention and the focus of the audience.
TV ads that we remember that have these features.......the ad bugger, the speights ad with the wedding dance etc.
YOUTUBE
Children shouldn't have a youtube account as this isn't something that teachers can monitor and our aim is to ensure we are keeping our learners safe through the use of technology.
Set up a channel
set the videos to unlisted if you are wanting to share they need to have the link.
Turn off commenting.
but ultimately NO child should have a youtube account just the teacher.
1. Before uploading video, review account settings and the Upload Defaults for your channel.
2. Settings.........
Public anyone can see the video.
Private only those you invite to view the video can view it (they must have their own Youtube accounts and the maximum number is 50 usernames)
Unlisted only people who know the link to the video can view it
3. Verify your account - this lets YouTube know that you are a real person and unlocks additional features e.g. long uploads. Google Support - verifying your account
Digital content is most effective when learning:
is visible and embedded into an existing programme of learning
is selected according to the needs and interests of the learner and informed by evidence - Assessment for Learning
is supported by effective teaching - Learn Create Share, NZ Curriculum, Literacy Online
empowers learners to create, collaborate and connect
is supported by relevant offline experiences (before and after use)
is combined with other relevant digital content and learning experiences
Digital Bubble groups have been amazing. Blessed to have the wonderful Emily who oozes patience and techno wisdom. Nothing seems to be a problem and she answers and advices with so much support.
Thanks Emily.
The versatility of Google Draw
The finished product and proof it can be done!!!!!!
Google Slides
Why you would use google slides To present as a keynote at a presentation, to create and as a teaching/learning tool1. Plan plan plan
2. Ditch the defaults Embrace the blank slides
3. Pictures paint a thousand words
4. Be consistent with formatting.
When creating the slide open google slide, change the background by right clicking the slide to give you the options. Use the background for the first slide. Search for the background you want. Choose the image and the colour etc.
The day was great. I did think working from home would be a lot easier than it was. I think the drive and the early morning start is sooooo much better for me. I like the face to face learning even if it means you can't wear your slippers and get to choose the comfy seat to work from, like at home. Roll on face to face next week.
The online crew!!!!!!!!!!!
The sunshine in my backyard. Heaven to soak in a little vitamin D in May!!!

ReplyDeleteMy goodness Theresa, what a lot you have covered in one day. I love your connections with Learn, Create Share, NZ Curriculum and NZ Literacy on Line.
ReplyDeleteAsk Angela J about Hapara. They are using this in Y4-6 to monitor and manage.
Kia ora Theresa,
ReplyDeleteI love your reflection of the day! There are perks to working from home, but nothing beats face to face interaction! Remember to set your slides so that anyone with the link can view - I'd love to see what you created.
